What you will be able to do
- Sit an 80-mark paper over the whole year in one sitting.
- Quote or point to the text when a question asks why.
- Compare both texts when a question names two.
- Mark your own written answers against the scheme given.
- Turn each lost mark into the chapter it came from.
Full explanation
What this paper is
This is a practice paper, not a board paper. Class 7 sits no board exam, and the books carry no marked test of their own. The shape here is the one a school commonly uses, so that sitting it feels like the real thing.
What it covers
All fifteen chapters. The weight falls on chapters 8 to 15, because the half-yearly paper has already examined the first seven. Rows from the earlier chapters appear throughout.
Point to the text
In English a reason is worth more than an opinion. When a question asks why, name the detail you are reasoning from. The schemes give a mark for the claim and a mark for the evidence.
When a question names two texts
Both long answers here compare two texts, and so does one of the three-mark questions. An answer about only one of them cannot score more than half, however good it is. Give each text its own paragraph and finish with what the difference depends on.
Marking your own work
Every written answer has a marking scheme beside it, split mark by mark. Mark yourself against it honestly. A point you meant but did not write down does not score.
What to do with a lost mark
Write the chapter number beside it. When the whole paper is marked, see which number appears most often. That chapter is where your next hour of revision belongs.
