Motion is always described relative to a reference point or frame. A car is moving relative to the ground, but at rest relative to its driver. This is the foundation of kinematics.

Position and Displacement
Where are you and how far did you go?
Position is the location of an object relative to a reference point, often denoted by $x$. Displacement is the change in position: $\Delta x = x_f - x_i$. It is a vector quantity, meaning it has both magnitude and direction.
