Full explanation
Three hours, eighty marks
This paper covers the first six chapters, from the scientific method to the materials around us. Read the whole paper before you write anything.
Part A is twenty quick marks
Twenty questions of one mark. Half a minute each. If one will not come, leave it and come back at the end.
Part B wants two points
Twelve questions of two marks. Two sentences is usually right, and the two marks usually sit on two separate points.
Part C wants three
Six questions of three marks. Three things, not one thing said three ways. Count them before you write.
Part D is the experiment
Six marks in four parts, worth one, one, two and two. Read the passage twice. Every answer is in it or follows from it.
Part E is the long answer
Two questions of six marks. Plan each one in the margin first.
Always write the unit
A number on its own says nothing in Science. Twelve is not a length; twelve centimetres is. Write the unit beside every measurement.
Describe an experiment in steps
If a question asks how you would show something, write what you would set up, what you would do, and what you would look for. Marks sit on all three.
Keep fifteen minutes back
Stop a quarter of an hour before the end. Check that nothing is blank, that every measurement carries a unit, and that Part C really has three points.
About this paper
This paper follows the pattern most schools use for a half-yearly test. It is not a board paper. Class 6 has no board exam.
